College Planning and Recruitment

The college selection and athletic recruitment process can be overwhelming. SUSA is committed to assisting member families with current and relevant resources to reduce the confusion every step of the way. To assist you on this journey, Kim and I will continue to provide workshops throughout the year to educate students and parents on the intricacies of being recruited and selecting the right college. Our workshops begin with general information sessions appropriate for each high school grade level and culminate with completion of the Common Application and the Common Application Essay. Please refer to the 2019 – 2020 College Workshop schedule listed below for continued support throughout the year. Topics will include, but not be limited to, academic fit, player ability and recruitment, NCAA guidelines, SAT/ACT testing, application completion, college visit recommendations, and navigating financial aid.  Players will be taught how and when to advocate with colleges to obtain the best financial package and the importance of tracking demonstrated interest. We will continue to offer a complimentary one-hour college consultation to all junior (rising senior) players.  Kim has met with all interested junior players and parents throughout the winter and spring for individual consultations. If you have not yet scheduled an individual meeting and would like to do so, please contact her directly at kimhearney@gmail.com. Topics will include selecting a geographic region, cost of attendance, major/career interest, determining “Family Fit”, review of student academics, and test scores. Our continued goal at SUSA will be to assist players and families with both the recruitment and college selection process.   I am looking forward to a successful year and season.  Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have regarding our services.

Sincerely,

Tim Hearney, Ed.D.
Director of College Planning
