A message from the Director of College Planning Tim Hearney Ed.D.
Hello SUSA Members,
I hope you are enjoying the summer and your families. I am very excited to share with you that your SUSA membership will include College Planning and Recruitment services. Our goal at SUSA will be to assist players and families with both the recruitment and college application process. I understand that the process is not only confusing but ever changing. To assist you in this endeavor, we are offering grade-level appropriate workshops for high school age students.
I am looking forward to working with players and families on the recruitment and college application process. My experience in coaching and education span over 23 years. I hold a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Accountability and a Masters in Special Education. Over the course of my career, I have served as a teacher, Assistant Principal, Director of Special Education, High School Principal, and currently as Assistant Superintendent. I have also had the opportunity to coach at all levels. My background includes coaching college level at St. John’s University, several premier teams, ODP, Long Island Select, and high school. This experience has enabled me to work with players, parents, and college coaches to find the perfect fit.
I am also pleased to share that my wife, Kim Hearney, has joined the SUSA team. Her extensive college and high school experience include her current position as the Director of College Counseling at St. Anthony’s High School. She holds a Masters of Science in College Student Development and is a NYS certified Guidance Counselor. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Communication and English. She is also an Admissions Counselor, Academic Advisor, and Adjunct Faculty at Suffolk County Community College. In addition to her private college consulting practice, Kim also serves on multiple university admissions advisory boards.
I am looking forward to a successful year and season. Do not hesitate to email me at email@example.com with any questions you may have regarding our new services.

College Recruitment Workshops
We will be providing workshops throughout the year to educate students and parents on the intricacies of being recruited and selecting the right college. Topics will include, but not be limited to, academic fit, player ability and recruitment, NCAA guidelines, application completion, navigating financial aid, and essay writing workshops. Players will be taught how and when to advocate with colleges to obtain the best financial package and the importance of tracking demonstrated interest.
One On One Consultations
We are also offering a complimentary one-hour college consultation to all players. Typically, the consultation will take place during the spring of the player’s junior year. Because this is our first year, seniors will have the opportunity for a one on one consultation during the months of August and September. Juniors will have the opportunity during the spring of 2017. Topics will include selecting a geographic region, cost of attendance, major/career interest, determine “Family Fit”, review of student academics and test scores.
Individual consultations for seniors will begin the week of August 1st. Be sure to bring an unofficial transcript, most recent report card, test scores, extracurricular resume, and senior course schedule to the meeting.
